If you allow stress to pile up inside you, even the smallest discomfort can trigger stress responses in you. Without even you knowing it, your body may be stressed for most of the time!
Therefore if you work regularly under stressful situations or have been too stressed lately, it's imperative that you set aside some quality time daily to de-stress yourself. Once the stress backlog becomes huge, it may seem insurmountable to tackle it and may even cause breakdown.
You often see articles on ways to unwind and relax after a stressful day, which I always find useful, but for me the most important advice would be to get to the source of the problem, and cut stress out before it even happens.
By careful editing of your life, and changing certain habits, you can eliminate most (not all) sources of stress in your life.

Hi Vishal,
In spite of the fact that I am aware of stress and have many strategies in play for minimizing it, I sometimes find that it does build up.
I sometimes find my shoulders and jaw a bit tense.
What sort of loosening exercises would you recommend for these areas?

I don't know if you are aware or not, but there is a great deal of stress stored in our body in the sub-conscious level. No matter how much you relax, based on your past life-style, there maybe a some stress stored sub-consciously. It'll only come out through periods of deep meditation/relaxation or through kriya (a routine of breathing exercise and postures). Hence, in the present lifestyle, it becomes essential to go to an extended meditation/cleansing retreat to de-stress completely.
Try to detach yourself from day to day activities. The more detached you are, the more relaxed you'll be.
Breathing is a wonderful tool to relax. Just take a deep breath, hold it, smile and be aware of the stressful part. Now let go off the breath with a smile and feel the relaxation. Do it a few number of times. You are bound to get relief with this technique.

Hi Vishal,
Thanx, years ago, I got into Kriya. I'll give it another shot and I'll look into retreat centers again. I once drove up to the East Coast to stay for a few days when a Guru was there. It was a peaceful experience.
Meditation does give me peace among other things. I started when I was 15 years old. It's been pretty good to me and I too recommend it to others.

That's what I would like to stress on. When you are with people who work from their heart, you automatically feel bliss. And when you are in bliss, you cannot do anything wrong. Rather than striving to change what is going wrong, just let it be. Let go. And things will automatically start changing for good.
However, the present state is such that we need many more gurus to bring about peace in our planet. But I guess it's happening. People are more stressed than ever before and are turning to meditation.
