Have you ever fallen into the trap of working around the clock, everywhere you find your self you end up working in some way shape or form. I am tired.

Hi Mika,
I'm prone to doing that. I usually work a good 12 hours a day - 7 days a week. It's been that way for years.
I can't imagine doing it any other way. Though I meditate, walk, jog, watch movies, and listen to music every day, I am tired too.
Not sure how to get out of the pattern. Maybe someone has a suggestion for us.

Detachment is the only way. The more you are attached to things and people around you, the more you are drawn outside and the more you suffer.

That is a very nice way of putting things Vishal thanks. I sometimes am prone to it as well, but as others know many are working more than normal right now just to keep up (and some of us are not those who leave beyond our means).

Right now I am doing similar to you. The only time I take completely off is for some quiet time with my child, and the rest I am working. I don't even sleep anymore-other than for about two hours a night!

I work 12 shifts a good 5-6 days a week and it is stressful. What I do to get away is try to go fishing at least one time a week. It is very relaxing.

I work around 8-10 hours a day myself. I'm working for myself and I have never worked harder in my whole life, but it does not really stress me out like corporate work did. what does stress me out is the fact that everyone I know who does work in that environment thinks when they get off work that I should too, and it does not go like that and they get annoyed. They just don't understand.

Hi Vishal,
I'm somewhat familiar with the concept of detachment. However, as far as putting it into practice, the only things I can come up with is letting go and not being attached to results - especially after I've tried my best.
Are you thinking I should cut back on my work hours, not think about it while not working, or something else?
Thanx,

If your work involves mostly around computers, I would definitely suggest cutting back on it. You can access consciousness/peace/bliss more through your body than anything else. Mind is very difficult to train and is responsible for most of the unhappiness in our life. However, our present lifestyle has become such that we use only our brain during majority of our time. The body doesn't get any attention. The entire energy in around the mind. Which is quite opposite of what our ancestors used to do. Apart from the basic necessities, they didn't have anything to worry about.
The more you cutback your mind activity, the more blissful, stress free you'll be.
When you operate your mind non-stop for 10 hours a day, doing meditation for one hour is not all sufficient. It should at least be equal if not reversed.

Hi, Newbie Shield I understand your desire to break out the habit and "spice up" your life a little bit but I think that having a pattern of behavior/life is actually calming and reduces stress. Instead of getting out of the pattern maybe you should make it more comfortable and appealing to you- introduce different activities so it doesn't seem plain and dull to you. I personally find comfort in the predictability of my "life schedule" but it must contain diverse parts, though!

I think it's not much of spicing up life but more of being able to get out of routine that we are addicted to. What is stress? Stress happens when something goes against our wishes or something that we cannot cope. However, if we cultivate an attitude of being open and not being rigid in our approach to life by having a rigid set of dogmas and preferences, stress wouldn't touch us.
Having a pattern of behavior/life is indeed calming to the mind because mind seeks security and permanence in everything. But is anything permanent? Is anything secure?

I think that the two of you are actually mostly in agreement.
Getting out of routine and task variety can be synonymous. I think that they are in this particular case.
I place a high value on these things. While we need predictability, we also need variety aka a break in the routine.
