Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with alternative music therapies for stress?
I've recently been under a lot of pressure and started to feel pretty depressed and demotivated with work. I started looking online for information on dealing with it and was surprised to find I fit all the criteria for burnout syndrom!
I don't think I'm ready to take medication for this yet, I was hoping to find a natural solution to my problem and read somewhere that music helps. Does anyone have any experiences?

The type of music will depend on your preference. Normally nature sounds like the chirping of birds and the rushing of water help calm our mind.

Music therapy can work for stress and a number of other issues. Try brainwave therapy! It's awesome. If you are looking for something you can listen to anytime of the day than you may want to try something with subliminal messaging. Those are great, but you should also try something that contains sound frequencies that actually create hemispheric synchronization. This means that both the left and right sides of the brain start working in harmony. You should not have to spend more than $25 for a single CD.

Music, I would say is the best source to reduce our stress. Music provides a healing touch to the mind and this in-turn results in the reduction of the stress levels. Music to me is like a breath of fresh air in this fast paced life, which provides the sooting effect to your mind and rejuvenates you. Sitting in the natures lap and listening to the sounds of the birds chirping, the sound of the water flowing in the river, just listening to this would relieve you off all the stress. This is the proof, there are such music CD's available which helps you relieve your stress. You could give it a try and see if it works for you.

I've taught stress management for years, and I absolutely know that certain music will have a very positive effect upon you, and add to your ability to manage stress.
jwalter is absolutely correct about some of the music you could select. I prefer music without words so I can visualize my own "peaceful place."
Find music that goes with the natural rhythm of the relaxed heart rate. I drive to SF to see my daughter quite often, and when I get in a traffic jam or find I am stopped on the highway, I just put in one of my relaxing CD's and it works quickly (along with a breath or two) to calm the situation.
By all means try music. Even in my high energy exercise classes I always end with 10 or 15 minutes of great music to relax and regenerate (with stretching and breathing. Good luck on your venture in finding the music that touches your healing cords.

I worked at a Trauma 1 inner city hospital for 7 years, and part of that time I spent integrating a relaxation music channel on the tv.
From the outcome data that was collected (it was a hospital you know) the results proved that for BOTH patients and staff, the relaxing music reduced stress for each.
Actually, the staff seemed to get "more" out of the music. Interesting.
