Weekly massage with stretching each day in between each massage has helped me a great deal in the past.

I need to get back into doing that routine.

To learn how to stretch, just observe a cat. They are the best teachers of all.

The combination of stretching and weekly massage goes a long way in reducing stress.

Yes, stretching helps a lot. Yoga, which chiefly involves stretching and twisting, is one of the best ways to health and general well-being.

Hi b2b,

A Chinese martial art that is practiced in slow motion. It's good for the health in that it balances the energy and moves it around. It also increases circulation, flexibility, focus, and joint strength. It's like a moving meditation.

You can read about it here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tai_chi_chuan
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/tai-chi/SA00087

They say it's one of the best exercises available to humankind.

It seems that Eastern societies/cultures have been much successful when dealing with stress than "western democracies". I find striking correlation between the culture, market system and level of stress. I real victory in the battle with stress will be acheived if we change/update our value system. Do I really have to drive the last model of BMW if that is going to force me to work even more?! Consumerism doesn't go well with stress!

Very true! The western side has been more success/material oriented than the east and hence the stress. In east, people are more contented. Of course things are changing now as economies are being rewritten.

Yes, you can't fail to manage stress with regular massage and stretching. I personally do some stretching every morning and self massage (wish I could access a masseuse more easily), before my tai chi and it does make a difference to my day, I feel less tired, more energised, open to situations and people. When I don't do this routine, I feel more encaged in my body.
May be one should add 10 minutes of quiet sitting also to let the mind register and re--assess!

Truly! A massage done through a professional masseuse is totally out of the world. Another option if you live with a partner is to massage each other in alternate days. This way, not only you get the pleasure of getting massaged, but also of massaging.
