A narrow/rigid mind is the #1 cause of stress.
What is a narrow mind?
A narrow mind is a mind that has a fixed set of beliefs and strives relentlessly to abide by them. Any deviation and it gets agitated and stressed. 99.9% of us fall in this category.
Whereas an open mind is a mind that is not bound by any beliefs and rules. It is free. No matter what may come, it accepts it without any complaints. 0.1% of us fall in this category.
Can you open up your mind?
Yes you can!
You have to first realize and accept the fact that it's your mind/ego that is causing you stress and you need to open it up. Once this is clear, start accepting things as they come. Keep a constant vigil to see if there's any resistance, any tightness in your body towards any situation. Once you notice it, immediately relax your body and exhale. The situation will lose grip over you.
Start with smaller and less threatening things first. That coffee stain on your shirt or the leaking tap or a flat tire. Once you master them, it'll be easier to open up to more difficult and demanding situations.

Hi Vishal,
Even for the open-minded, this one is tough.
I am open-minded, but once I carefully think something through and decide for good reason to believe something, it's sometimes hard to change after that.
Then I become close-minded as you said.
I do get very tense when I have to deviate from a carefully reasoned stance.
It's very hard for me to change, especially by going with another persons belief when I am certain about something. Same is true when a situation presents itself or changes. I get upset with going with anything less than perfectly ethical or perfectly efficient.
It can easily turn to anger.
I think that bit at the end in your entry is great advice - to start with the smaller things. They are much easier, and once mastered, provide some experience for the bigger things.
I'll give that a try.
Thank you,
