I recently got a new job in which I spend up to 8 hours on the computer. It's been over a month now and I see that I get stressed pretty soon (within 2-3 hours) and am not able to concentrate thereafter. Is it because of spending too much time in front of the computer?

Thanks!

Neil

When you are working at a computer your eyes are focused to a set distance. Factory workers also have their eyes focused a short distance away. The difference is that they have to take them off that point to something else pretty quickly. There is less chance of eye strain.
You are also thinking all the time when you are on the computer. That would add to the stress. At a time when I could ill afford it, I had a team of programmers working for me. I had them stop every 50 minutes and they were forced to do something else than look at the computer or look at the paperwork. It reduces stress, and that is what I would suggest for a starter.
Lack of concentration is a pretty serious problem for a computer worker, so watch your habits carefully. If you are entitled to breaks, take them and certainly take your eyes off the screen every 50 minutes for a full 10 minutes.

Thanks for the information Dr_Broadland. I think that should help a lot.

there had been a lot of researches and studies on making our computer more friendly.

barnd computer producers to focus on their product being "ergonomic".

however, it's only laptops at present which feature some of these ergonomic designs.

we need to wait some more days till all computers become fun to use.

Your computer job could be one of the factors in your stress, especially if it isn't ergonomic. Try getting your superiors to do something about it because it would help them too since the healthier you are, the more work is likely to be done

You can try to minimize the time on the monitor by looking around when you need to wait a page to be loaded or a job being done.

If you need to look at pages with similar colour pattern (for example) company sales software or a billing system, you can have a different wallpaper to look at very frequently.

Also when you are working, you can run another program or page to "tab" over, getting a different colour scheme.
