I have a friend who is pregnant. She is stressed most of the time due to family problems. I have told her to stay happy as I feel her stress could affect her baby too. Can anybody tell me how stress can harm a baby?

I think it will make the baby aggressive and moody. When I was pregnant I had much stress including work and when the baby was born he was just clawing after anyone who came in his path. I know that could have been a symptom of being shocked about being in the new world, but there was something different about his aggression. By the way, he's now two and he is tsill aggressive.

The problem is that when you are stressed, certain hormones (cortisol for instance) gets released by your body. These make their way through your blood supply to the developing child's body. And yes it can affect their development-but I'm not sure how it presents itself.
