When a person suffers from a prolonged period of severe stress, they could experience a number of mental and physical health complications that over time can result in illness.

How can stress cause illness? When excessive stress is sustained within your body, stress can actually begin to change the shape of your blood cells and even destroy them. This can leave you feeling weaker and increases your risk of developing infections such as the cold virus and other stress related illness including:

Migraine headaches – Almost all cases of migraines are a symptom of stress. Unlike a regular headache, a migraine can be extremely painful and debilitating. The best way to overcome stress headaches is to engage in daily relaxation methods such as massages, taking warm baths, etc.

Insomnia – the inability to sleep occurs when the brain is over stimulated from adrenalin caused by stress. Sleep is vital to your physical and mental health. If you are not receiving enough sleep, stress will increase in your life. In order to overcome insomnia, you need to find a way to shut your mind off.

This can be achieved by cutting stimulants out of your diet (IE caffeinated beverages or drugs), through meditation, and winding your mind down well before bedtime. If you find natural remedies are not helping your insomnia, visit your doctor.

Ulcers – Stress can cause excess stomach acid production which can deteriorate the stomach lining. Stress can also lead to the improper digestion of food, because it can cause the stomach muscles to tense and contract. To help reduce stress that causes stomach disorders, don't rush through meals. Sit down and eat meals slowly. Also don't lie down, or engage in any vigorous activity until a good 20 minutes after eating.

Rheumatoid arthritis – Although stress doesn't cause rheumatoid arthritis, it does make the symptoms felt by these arthritis sufferers much more severe. Rheumatoid arthritis is an auto immune illness where antibodies become misdirected against cells in the body and results in tissue damage. Thus, because stress has a negative affect on the immune system, it can aggravate symptoms. Many people have found they could control and reduce their rheumatoid arthritis symptoms by engaging in regular forms of stress management.

High blood pressure and heart attack – Both of these conditions are symptoms of stress. High blood pressure places excessive stress on blood vessel walls which can burst and result in a stroke. In addition, stress also causes excessive pressure within the circulatory system which places a dangerous strain on the heart and can lead to a heart attack. Learning how to reduce your stress can dramatically lower your risk of heart attack and keep your blood pressure under control.

Cancer – Stress is one of the main contributors to the cause of many types of cancer. Stress weakens the immune system, and as a result, the immune system has weaker and fewer cells to fight off illness. Furthermore, T cells in the immune system are the body's only real defense against cancer cells. T cells can only be produced when the body is in its cycle of relaxation.

Your body needs to relax to remain strong and healthy. For the sake of your health, you need to find effective ways to relive your stress.

hello,

this writing is really a well researched post.

i only knew about high blood pressure and insomnia being caused by stress but not ulcer, cancer and rheumatoid arthritis.

it sounds like ultimately, a free and relaxed mind is required to get rid of all diseases.

so cheer up and be happy.

Taj
