How do you keep from getting your children stressed out when they don't really need to be? Maybe a move is coming up or something else that might stir them up a bit.

It depends on the situation. If it is an expected, big upheaval, then you can work at preparing them. Talk about it a lot, tell them what to expect, what you will do in the lead up. Help them understand the time to pass, with a chart where they can mark off a square each day.

Other things-just be honest with them. The unexpected is far more fearful than anything else to a little one.

If your moving it would be a good idea to get them active in the new community. The more friends they make the easier it will be for them to fit in

In my opinion the best thing you can do is to give them extra attention if they seem to need it and/or give them space if they need to be alone to figure out things for themselves.
Personally I am against moving children while they are in the process of learning to socialize and have already made friends. The same thing happened to me and I don't think I have ever recovered from it.

There are times when it cannot be avoided Jake. Military families perhaps, or in my case, I have to move to a different country because my stay of immigration has ended! So in February me and my daughter move continents, and you know, she'll be fine. We're going back to where my family is, instead of where my failed marriage is, so we'll be better off there.

I think another thing is if we act all stressed out about a particular change, then they may develop the same reaction, but if we act all positive they just may get excited about it too.
