I am in my early 20s and from childhood I have this problem in me,stressing out.I had consulted a doc when I was 4yrs old and he said its the fear.I used to deal with my own since then but sometimes it puts me taking wrong decision(not big ones though). In last 5 years there was 2 such situation where I had tough competition but I failed to stand well.During this I got totally distracted from work while I had to handle the stress well. For the 1st time,I thought its all my fault but for the 2nd time and gradually I understood when there is too much stress,I get distracted. For example if I am not prepared for an exam,I will start avoiding books as the exam will approach. How to deal with it?

Hi Tian,

Start living in the present. Read some good books on mindfulness. When you start living in the present, being mindful to every moment, there is no time to worry. Really, it works like magic.

And stop procrastinating. At the start of the day, prepare a to-do list, with jobs with high priority at the top. And work on it!

Be brave to face your problems Tian. You should understand well your problems, such as your weaknesses or your fear of something. In your case, you are stressed and that you get distracted. Well, when you are preparing for your competition, don't forget to make yourself relax and stay calm! Only when you are relax and calm, you can do things well and confidently. Make time for yourself to relax your mind and get your mind away from your preparation.

As for this, Vishal had a good piece of advice for you already
A to-do list is a must for everyone.

I guess you are lacking self confidence and at the same time, you are scared to fail. If you are not confident enough, small things stress you and that's the time you avoid things related to it. And when you avoid things, failure is near and it scares you.

I agree with Vishal to write a to-do list with priorities on top. Why not try the time management table with quadrants: urgent and important, important but not urgent, urgent but not important ;and not important and not urgent. It would help you manage your time efficiently and save your energy thinking of other things. This is helpful for me, I hope you try this.

Hi Tian,

Our childhood experiences usually sit in our sub-conscious mind, beyond our conscious awareness and these experiences then start governing our dysfunctional feelings and behavior such as stress, fear, anxiety etc. These are some of the things you can do to overcome your fear and stress issues:
1. Try learning a little bit of self hypnosis techniques. Self hypnosis is not what people think it is. So do some reading on this and see if this can help.
2. Try getting a copy of a book called the healing code by Dr Alex Loyd and practice the techniques given therein.
3. Check out a very simple technique called EFT (emotional freedom technique) on youtube, google etc and use it to heal your childhood fear issues.
4. Practice meditation for long term peace and tranquility.

Have faith in yourself. Outline your goals. Come up with a strategy to achieve those goals. Live your life to the max while achieving.
