I have been extremely stressed for several years now due mainly to school work and division one soccer six days a week, but also due to external pressures for me to succeed and be the best. I feel drained and exhausted, emotionless at times, but usually anxious, worried, or tense. I have been getting migraines lately and am more succeptible to colds. Occasionally I find myself compulsively cleaning or getting upset over little things. My parents seem to think it is a hormonal issue, and they are blowing me off when I ask for advice. I just need to know if what I am experiencing is typical of the average teen in school. Is it hormonal? Or should I be working harder to find a way out of this rut? I have gone out of my way to sign up for yoga class, but it only provides relief for the hour I am in the class. I feel kind of alone without the support of my parents, and I just need advice.

Dear soccer7,

Stress happens when you are not at ease or you need to be somewhere or someone other that the present moment or your present self. You must realize that being first/being the best is the not going to make you happy. Once you have reached a goal, after a brief period of relaxation, your mind will immediately have another goal. And so on... You can never be at ease with this attitude. Happiness/Success cannot be attained by achieving some goal. It can only be achieved by loving/enjoying what you do and giving your full attention to it. If it's really not possible to love/enjoy what you do, try finding a different activity that you love.

I can understand how difficult it can be when you cannot get the support of your parents. In that case, try finding supportive friends.

My final advice - don't take life seriously. Just relax, slow down and enjoy what you do.

I totally agree with Vishal. Oftenly, being the first or the best can make you get exhausted. Everyday you train harder to polish your skills, yet you do not make space for freedom. You are overwhelmed.
Yes, happiness can only be attained by enjoying something you do,something that you really indulge in it. I am a soccerr player too,but i am not overwhelm. It is because i love to play soccerr. It is my passion, and i really enjoy every moment i spent on the field. Enjoying can take you farther than anything. As for the school works, you may seek for friends to help you solve your doubts in your studies,or you even can look for your teacher personally to help you overcome your doubts. You may even consult your school counsellor for advices as they know the right ways to help students to ease stress.

Like what Vishal had said, try looking for supportive friends who understand you. Or you even can look for your relatives for supports.

Just follow the flow.

Hope this helps.

Hi. I don't usually see myself get stressed out over things but I can't be sure. I want to prevent getting too stressed out. And most times I feel like I have the answers to my questions and problems but I just want any advice on how to check to see if I'm getting stressed out. Thanks.
