I am 31 and have recently been quite ill with what i think is prob stress. I had a doctors appointment last week and am just about to go this aft to find out the results of my blood tests. I am having what seem to be the classic symptoms and i think it is work related but its started to impact on my private life. Im not sure what to say to the doctor this afternoon because there is no way I can face work next week. but also I am worried of the implications of going off with "stress" because I am going (i think) to have to find a new job and it will look bad if I have been off with stress. I really dont know what to do?

Can you take a break meanwhile, till you face work next week? Taking a break can do wonders to your overall well-being. Just make sure you don't carry along any worries with you.

Hi Euskaltel,
If you have any vacation or sick time from work saved up, just take it. Sometimes an employer will allow you to take "personal time" without having to explain why.
You might spend the time off coming up with a plan to manage your stress via exercise, massage, relaxation, and monitoring your though patterns.
It sounds like stress management should be a top priority for you. Take it seriously so that it doesn't bring you to your knees indefinitely.
Good luck,

Thanks for your replies. I have been to the docs twice now since I posted on this forum. He has said that he thinks I am suffering from depression, which at the time was a bit of a shock. I knew I was under stress but it was a shock to hear the doctor tell me how far it had gone. He told me not to underestimate this and not to let it manifest into anything further. I am due back on friday to discuss how we are going to get through it. Im not sure what to think but thinkgs have been getting worse. It seems to have snowballed over the last four weeks but i think its been going on for a few months now. Im still not sure of the repercussions with work. Im getting a phonecall a day and I get the impression they think I am swinging the lead. Up until now the doctor has been writing migraines on a sick note for me but i guess now he will have to write depression which again i am worried will impact on my working career whether I stay in my current job or not.

My sincere advice to just forget everything and have fun. If you start taking by heart every single word your doc says then you'll start having them even if you really don't have them. It's pill age now and there seems to be a pill for every problem. Pills can never cure you. They'll only suppress the problem.
Don't get me wrong. It's good to get medical attention but don't be a slave to anything. You are free and everything is in your mind. If you have surrendered to your problems, then you'll be bound by them forever. If you think you'll be free one day, that time will never come. If you think you are free now, you are really free.
There are some really good auto-suggestion cds available at http://www.thinkrightnow.com They can be of tremendous help.
