What a profound statement. If you realize the real meaning of this statement, you can never be stressed.
Most the stress that we encounter is due to the fact that we are either trying to change something or prevent something from changing.
Now let me ask you, is there anything in this world that is not changing?
Every thing is changing. Nothing is permanent. Your own body is changing every single moment. Can you prevent that? Wouldn't it be a foolish thing to do so?
If you are happy now, it is not going to be for ever. If you are sad now, it is not going to be for ever. Your mood changes every moment.
Nothing is permanent. This too shall pass... This too will change...
Realize this and meditate on this. Both in good times and bad times. And stress will never touch you.

Hi Vishal,
It really is a profound statement and it's quite powerful in practice.
Even stress will pass :)
The Serenity Prayer is a nice tool to recite if stress about change should arise.
Is everyone familiar with the Serenity Prayer?
Though it takes practice, we can decide if and how we will react to stress triggers. Stress triggers are things and situations that can cause stress - the operative word being can.
Learning to catch a stress mind pattern when it first starts is the first step. Some refer to this as "being mindful".
A good response is then to respond mechanically rather than emotionally. Determine whether or not you can change the situation or not. In either case, don't allow it to upset you.
If you can change it, do so. If you can't, adapt.
Has anyone ever tried this? It works very well for me.

The Serenity prayer should be a must for everyone, regardless of religious or spiritual persuasions. It is very helpful. I think what you say, Newbie Shield, not to depend on emotions in stressful situations, is great advice. If we can meld a fine amount of intellect with just a bit less emotional response, we rather move from the fear and worry of stress, or from taking things too personal.
Just in case you aren't familiar with the Serenity Prayer, it is: "God Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." Great advice in a small package. Thanks for reminding me too!

Hi there! Your statement is indeed a very good one. One needs to embrace the change around and go with the flow.
Breath and accept what has happened and will happen.

Hi - thanks for posting this!
It is something that my late father used to say, and seeing it here really moved me.
I also instantly felt myself relax (I think my shoulders just went down by an inch!)

This is so interesting to me. My mom had a major stroke back in 2000, and on her hardest days that is exactly what she would say to me, "This, too, shall pass..."
Now, for me, I not only say it to myself as part of my own stress management, but I share it with others who are stressed. The words and the hope that they invoke do help the body to relax.
Interesting...

I LOVE the phrase this too shall pass. It is a good reminder in both stressful and good time pass. During stressful times remember that you will get through it and during good time remember to enjoy the moment because it too will pass

I used to have that phrase posted in my car so I could see it whenever I'd get impatient in the traffic...I can vouch for its working. Am going to put one in my present car. Thanks for reminding!

Great tip.
This may sound silly but I thought of this the other day when I was in some terrible weather. I was outside sitting in it and I couldn't go anywhere. I just thought that it wasn't permanent and I was ok!

We're just human beings and everybody can't deny that even though this is a fact, we all have a hard time admitting things that sadden us. We don't usually think those type of "moments" will pass very quickly and when we're happy, we hope that the time will take a slow pace- these also cause stress to us.

Yes indeed, the impermanence of things is a double-edged sword. On the one hand it's good to be reminded that 'this too shall pass' when we are stressed or unhappy; but we don't want to be reminded that this applies to the good times as well!
