I attended a time management course yesterday and it opened my eyes to many things, the chief of which, the things that needs to be done, must be organized in four quadrants or areas. Urgent and important, important but not urgent, urgent/not important, not important/not urgent.

I will take some time to organize myself and see if I am less stressed.

Where did you find the info on such a class? I find myself not having enough time all the time. This would work great for me.

Hi Mika,

It sounds like a helpful class. It's been my experience that listing and prioritizing tasks can be very helpful.

If you'd like to take it to a new level, you might look into Project Management.

You can put your tasks in a word processor or a spreadsheet. You order them according to your priority categories and assign a time frame estimate for each task.

The time frame estimate will help you determine how many tasks you can expect to complete in a given day. As you gain more experience, you'll become very good with your estimates.

It can be a big help in relieving stress and improving efficiency and productivity in general.

I imagine they taught you something similar in your class.

I find it intimidating to begin a project... it seems impossible to complete so much in so little time. I know that two things help a lot- don't waste time and start ASAP and "divide and conquer". Dividing the task into small manageable parts makes it look attainable and even easy. My problem is that even knowing all that I still don't actually do it and leave it for the last moment.

Prioritization and organization are essential for successful time management. Good for stress management too since stress often is the result of overwhelm. A quiet mind helps too! Sometimes we spend more time worrying about what needs to be done than actually doing it - another time waster. No wonder we feel stressed out and out of time. Best of luck to you.

Hi Mika

another great method you have there! When you have a good time management, you will have sufficient time to do the things you wish to do. As we've seen many cases people got stressed out due to insufficient time to accomplish a project. So, time management is another great method to overcome stress.

And by sorting out all of your things that are needed to be done according to its importance, you will feel more relief as you will have sufficient time to finish doing all the important tasks.

I like to keep things simple. I have too many friends who spend too much time tinkering with their time management system. Kind of ironic.

One of my favorite quotes goes something like: "lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

Is there a good resource that I could find on the web about this? I constantly struggle to deal with a busy day.

Prioritizing tasks using a spreadsheet is not new to me but I still can't do it correctly. I mean, I never meet my deadlines, it is usually done before it's due and sometimes, it's already due and I haven't finish them yet because there are always urgent things from the boss.

The listing of tasks using the quadrants is great and I think is both useful and helpful. I should try it.

If you have a problem with time management now there are many online tools, which help to organize your work and life. You can set task/ to-dos; store and share documents in a secured cloud-based platform, collaborate etc. It makes your plans, subtasks and project clear and easy to manage. I'm using www.projektino.com, where the basic plan is for free,so I don't spend any money on that. Maybe it can help you, too.

Time management can really help with stress, but I think there is a point that you become so micromanaged that the time management itself becomes a stressful event. You will have to tell us how productive your class was for you.

Time management is indeed very important in life. But the difficult part is on how to identify the priorities and not.

I read a book about time management and it shows the roman culture on their effective way of managing their time.

To me, I try to manage my time by focusing on the task at hand and stop worrying about time as much as possible. This means that I try to restrain myself from looking at my watch on regular interval...kinda of like trying to achieve a timeless phenomenon...

As also mentioned in the previous post, I find that having a quiet mind helps quite considerably in this aspect. By stilling your mind, you tend to increase your concentration power, this in turn will let you to get more work done.
